Practice and Mediation History

Mr. Honeywell, a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, tried several dozen cases to verdict in State and Federal Courts. During his career he was retained by insurance companies to defend their insureds in a variety of personal injury and products liability litigation. During the last twenty five years, he also litigated a wide variety of cases, including insurance coverage on behalf of policyholders, commercial litigation, real estate disputes, will contests, class actions, wrongful death suits and other significant injury cases. He hasrepresented several attorneys in defense of legal malpractice cases, and in partnership break-ups, and has represented the Washington State Bar Association in prosecuting complaints against attorneys.

While conducting a multifaceted litigation practice, Mr. Honeywell has, over the past 10 years participated in multiple mediation training courses, has been approved as a U.S. District Court CR 39 mediator, and successfully mediated and arbitrated hundreds of cases. He is currently discontinuing his litigation practice to devote full time to mediations and arbitrations. He is available to mediate or arbitrate cases involving: personal injury; professional negligence; products liability; real estate and commercial litigation; sexual abuse of minors; and insurance claims and coverage.

Varied examples of some of Mr. Honeywell's cases and results are as follows:

  • Obtained a substantial settlement in a wrongful death case arising out of defective highway design;
  • In separate lawsuits, represented both claimants and insurers in bad faith insurance coverage claims;
  • Successfully defended a claim against a truck alignment shop in a vehicle rollover which caused two deaths;
  • Represented several lawyers in defense of legal malpractice claims and other attorneys in law firm dissolutions;
  • Represented dozens of adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse in separate actions, obtaining a jury verdict and multiple settlements in compensation for that abuse;
  • Successfully obtained insurance coverage for Skagit County from multiple insurance companies for flood damage claims against the County;
  • Obtained a verdict for a specific performance of a breach of contract claim for the sale of a Seattle apartment complex;
  • Obtained a substantial wrongful death settlement for the family of a young African-American who was shot and killed outside of a local restaurant;
  • Obtained a jury verdict for a dairy farmer whose herd had been wrongfully repossessed by a bank;
  • Successfully invalidated several employees' "covenants not to compete" sought to be enforced by former employers;
  • Obtained a verdict for an injunction and damages on behalf of a local company against a national company who had been using predatory practices in an attempt to force the local company out of business;
  • Obtained a verdict in favor of Rockwell International in defense of a franchisee's claim of exclusive territory violation;
  • Obtained a verdict for General Motors in defending a product liability claim for allegedly defective engines;
  • Tried dozens of cases to verdict in his early career for plaintiffs and defendants arising out of auto cases and premises liability.
